These books are the adventures of Edwin Drood, AKA Shaman Bond (His field name; it is a parody of James Bond's name) and he is a part of the Droods, an ancient family that purportedly watches over the world and protects it from various threats, including supernatural and magical ones. Needless to say, they are wholeheartedly despised by criminals. Each Drood is entrusted with a Golden (And, for some time, silver) Torc, which bestows a certain "Living Armour" upon the wearer, giving them nearly unlimited strength, speed, durability and stealth, which can be called up or dispelled at will. The torc also grants the wearer the Sight, allowing him to see through most magical and scientific disguises, translates any language, prevents the user from appearing in any kind of photograhpy, videotaping, or tracking of any kind (Including tracking by other Droods), prevents the user's soul from being taken away (By daemons or other creatures of the sort), and a whole host of other abilities

It is the near future, and there have been amazing advances in genetics research. Through gene therapy, many deadly diseases (cancer, etc.) have been cured through these tests. The SimGen Corporation has created a transgenic species called SIMS, part chimpanzee and part human (Humanzee) and they are treated as
slaves
. Suddenly a group of sims working as caddies at a golf club want to unionize. They hire lawyer Patrick Sullivan to represent them, and he begins to ponder whether sims are entitled to human rights or not because they're part animal.
Patrick meets activist Romy Cadman and a mysterious man called Zero, who are on a crusade to destroy SimGen and stop the creation of sims. While the three of them try to protect the sims, they come close to uncovering a sinister secret in SimGen and the company will stop at nothing to stop the secret from getting out.
The story touches on a possible future for genetics research, including the idea of primate hybrids with human DNA, and asks the question: Where would such creatures stand in human society, and would they be considered animal or human?

The Dark Tower
The Dark Tower is a series of books written by American author Stephen King. The series incorporates themes from multiple genres, including
fantasy fiction
, science fantasy, horror and western elements. They describe a "Gunslinger" and his quest toward a tower whose nature the books call both physical and metaphorical. King has described the series as his magnum opus. Besides the seven novels that compose the series proper, many of his other books relate to the story, introducing concepts and characters that come into play as the series progresses. After the series was finished, a series of prequel comics followed.
The series was chiefly inspired by the
poem
"Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" by Robert Browning, whose full text was included in the final volume's appendix. In the preface to the revised 2003 edition of
The Gunslinger, King also identifies
The Lord of the Rings, Arthurian Legend, and
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly as inspirations. He identifies Clint Eastwood's "Man with No Name" character as one of the major inspirations for the protagonist, Roland Deschain. King's style of location names in the series, such as Mid-World, and his development of a unique language abstract to our own (High Speech), are also influenced by J. R. R. Tolkien's work
.
